People who are not yet familiar with the ab wheel often think that it is an exercise equipment targeting only the abs. However, the ab wheel works differently than regular sit-ups, crunches and other abdominal targeted exercises.

When you use the ab wheel you feel that you are working out your chest, upper and lower back, triceps, and biceps as well as your core and abdominal muscles. You improve your allover body strength and alignment, and not only the abdominal mucsles.

If you are a bit handy, you might enjoy building your own ab wheel! It is very easy, you only need the right parts from a hardware store. You can simply make your own ab wheel with a couple of bolts, nuts and one or more wheels.


How to use the Ab Wheel – Basics

1. Kneel on the floor with one hand on each grip of the ab wheel. Place the ab wheel on the floor in front of you so that you are on your hands and knees.

2. Slowly roll the wheel out and away from your knees. Breath in as you do this. Only go as far out as you can without loosing proper form, and don’t touch the floor with your body.

3. When you have rolled out as far as you can, reverse the movement and roll back up to the starting position. Breathe out as you do this.

4. Repeat the movement!

If you perform the movement in a controlled manner it will lead to great results! But, as with any form of exercise, it is important to use proper form when using the exercise wheel, overextending and putting the body in bad positions might lead to physical problems.
